These terms apply when you use this website and when you buy Beyond the Looking Glass and its companion book Your Own Looking Glass. They are written to be read. If anything is unclear, write to us before you buy.

1. Who we are

Michael Young is the pen name used by the author, Michal Tříska. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Michal Tříska, and “you” refers to the person using the website or buying the books.

2. How the purchase works

Orders on this website are processed by our online reseller, Lemon Squeezy, LLC, 222 South Main Street, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101, USA (“Lemon Squeezy”). Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record for the transaction. This means that Lemon Squeezy:

The sale itself is therefore also governed by Lemon Squeezy’s Buyer Terms and Privacy Policy, which you accept at checkout. The charge on your statement will appear under the Lemon Squeezy name.

We are the author and publisher of the books. We grant you the licence described in section 5, we give you the guarantee described in section 6, and we remain your point of contact for anything to do with your order.

3. What you are buying, and the price

One purchase includes both titles as digital files:

The price is $19 (US dollars). It is a one-time payment. It is not a subscription, and nothing will be charged again.

Depending on where you live, tax may be added and your bank or payment provider may convert the amount into your own currency. The full amount you will pay, including any tax, is shown at checkout before you confirm the order.

To read the books you need a device and software that can open PDF or EPUB files. No physical product is shipped.

4. Delivery

After a successful payment you will receive an e-mail with your download links, usually within a few minutes. You can also reach your files at any time through your Lemon Squeezy orders page, signing in with the e-mail address you used at checkout.

If the e-mail has not arrived within an hour, please check your spam folder and then write to us. We will make sure you get your files.

When you buy the books, you receive a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use them, with no time limit. You may:

6. 30-day money-back guarantee

If you buy the books and decide they are not for you, write to hello@emotionalcomingout.com within 30 calendar days of your purchase. You do not have to explain why. We will refund the full amount you paid.

The refund is issued through Lemon Squeezy to your original payment method. Details are in the Refund Policy.

This guarantee is a voluntary promise that we give you in addition to your legal rights. It does not replace or limit them.

7. Right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the law normally gives you 14 days to withdraw from a contract concluded online. For digital content that is not supplied on a physical medium, this right ends once delivery has begun with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose it.

Because the books are delivered immediately after payment, you are asked at checkout to agree to immediate delivery and to acknowledge that the statutory right of withdrawal ends when the download becomes available to you.

In practice you lose nothing: the 30-day money-back guarantee in section 6 gives you a longer period, and it applies whether or not you have downloaded the files.

8. If something is wrong with the files

The files should be complete, readable and as described on this website. If a file is damaged, incomplete or will not open, tell us and we will put it right, normally by sending you a working copy without delay.

If you are a consumer, you also have the rights that the law of your country gives you when digital content is not in conformity with the contract, including, where the problem cannot be put right, a price reduction or a refund. In the European Union, these rights apply to defects that become apparent within two years of delivery.

9. What the books are, and what they are not

The books are a personal account and a set of reflections and exercises. They are offered for your own reading and self-reflection. They are not medical, psychological, psychiatric or therapeutic advice, and they are not a substitute for professional care.

If you are struggling, please speak to a qualified professional. If you are in crisis or think you may be in danger, contact your local emergency services straight away.

10. Using this website

The content of this website, including its texts, images and design, is protected by copyright and may not be copied or reused without our written permission, apart from sharing a link to it.

Please do not misuse the website: do not attempt to disrupt it, gain unauthorised access to it, or use it for anything unlawful. The website links to services run by others, such as the checkout. We are not responsible for the content of websites we do not operate.

We work to keep the website available and accurate, but we cannot promise that it will always be free of interruptions or errors.

11. Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. In particular, nothing here limits our liability for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for harm to life or health, or the rights you have as a consumer.

Subject to that, we are not liable for loss that we could not reasonably have foreseen, for loss that was not caused by a breach on our part, or for decisions you make on the basis of what you read in the books.

12. Complaints and disputes

If you are unhappy with anything, please write to us first at hello@emotionalcomingout.com. We answer in person and will try to resolve the matter quickly.

If you are a consumer and we cannot settle a dispute between us, you may turn to the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce), Gorazdova 1969/24, 120 00 Prague 2, Czech Republic, which is the body responsible for the out-of-court resolution of consumer disputes. The procedure is free of charge. Details are available at coi.gov.cz.

Consumers living in another EU country, Norway or Iceland can also ask the European Consumer Centre in their own country for help with a cross-border dispute.

Compliance with consumer protection law is supervised by the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, and compliance with data protection law by the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz).

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic.

If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection given to you by the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of that country. Your contract of sale with Lemon Squeezy is governed by the law set out in its Buyer Terms.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when the law or our service providers change. The version published on this page on the day of your purchase is the one that applies to that purchase. The date of the last update is shown at the top.

These terms are available in English only. If any part of them turns out to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
