Privacy Policy

This website was built to be quiet. We collect as little as possible, we do not track you, and we do not sell anything about you to anyone. This policy explains what personal data we do handle, why, and what rights you have. It follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

Michael Young is the pen name used by the author, Michal Tříska. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we are not required to. For any privacy question, write to the address above.

2. What we process, why, and for how long

When you visit the website. To deliver the pages to your browser, our hosting provider processes technical data such as your IP address, the type of browser and device, and the date and time of the request. The typeface used on the website is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser also sends your IP address to Google. We do not combine this data with anything else, and we do not use it to identify you.

• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Retention: we keep no visitor logs of our own. Our providers keep technical logs only for a short period, in line with their own policies.

When you buy the books. Your order is placed with Lemon Squeezy, our reseller and merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, e-mail address, country or billing address and payment details, and is responsible for that data as a controller in its own right; see Lemon Squeezy’s Privacy Policy. We never see or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy shares with us the details of your order: your name, e-mail address, country, what you bought, when, and how much you paid. We use them to make sure you receive your files, to answer your questions, to handle refunds, and to keep our accounts.

• Legal basis: performance of the contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)); compliance with our legal obligations, in particular tax and accounting law (Article 6(1)(c)); and our legitimate interest in establishing and defending legal claims (Article 6(1)(f)).
• Retention: for the period required by Czech tax and accounting law, which can be up to 10 years from the end of the year of purchase.

When you leave your e-mail in “Stay connected”. We use your e-mail address only to send you occasional messages from the author. Signing up is entirely voluntary and is not a condition of anything. Our mailing provider also records when you subscribed and basic delivery information, such as whether a message was delivered or opened.

• Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time, using the unsubscribe link in every e-mail or by writing to us. Withdrawing consent does not affect messages already sent.
• Retention: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only a record that you unsubscribed, so that we do not write to you again.

When you write to us. If you contact us through the “Write to the author” form or by e-mail, we process your name, your e-mail address and whatever you choose to tell us, in order to reply. This book deals with personal subjects, and readers sometimes share personal things in return. Please tell us only what you are comfortable sharing. If your message contains sensitive information about you, such as details about your health or your private life, we will use it solely to answer you, on the basis of your explicit consent in sending it to us (Article 9(2)(a)).

• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (Article 6(1)(f)), or steps taken at your request before or in connection with a purchase (Article 6(1)(b)).
• Retention: for as long as it takes to deal with your message, and for no more than 12 months after our last exchange, unless we need to keep it longer to meet a legal obligation or to deal with a legal claim.

3. What we do not do

• We do not use analytics, advertising trackers, retargeting pixels or social media plug-ins.
• We do not build profiles of visitors and we make no decisions about you by automated means.
• We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

4. Who receives your data

We share personal data only with the service providers we need in order to run this website, and only to the extent they need it:

• Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) – hosting and delivery of the website.
• Lemon Squeezy, LLC (USA) – checkout, payment, tax, receipts and delivery of the files. Lemon Squeezy acts as an independent controller and works with payment partners such as Stripe and PayPal.
• MailerLite Limited (Ireland) – the “Stay connected” mailing list, only if you sign up. See MailerLite’s Privacy Policy.
• Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) – delivery of the web fonts.
• Our e-mail hosting provider, for messages sent to and from our address.
• Our accountant or tax adviser, and public authorities, where the law requires it.

5. Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Some of these providers are based in the United States or may process data there. Where that is the case, the transfer is covered either by the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where the provider is certified under it, or by the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• ask whether we process your personal data and receive a copy of it;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased where there is no longer a reason for us to keep it;
• have the processing restricted in certain circumstances;
• object to processing that we carry out on the basis of our legitimate interests;
• receive the data you gave us in a commonly used, machine-readable format, or have it passed to another controller;
• withdraw your consent at any time, where the processing is based on consent.

To use any of these rights, write to hello@emotionalcomingout.com. We will reply within one month, free of charge. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not hand your data to someone else.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the Czech Republic this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Prague 7, uoou.gov.cz. You may equally turn to the authority in the country where you live or work.

7. Do you have to give us your data?

You can read this website without giving us anything. To buy the books, you need to provide the details requested at checkout, because the order cannot be completed and delivered without them. The mailing list and the contact form are entirely optional.

8. Children

This website and the books are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please let us know and we will delete it.

9. Security

The website is served over an encrypted connection. Payments are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy and its payment partners, and access to order data and to our mailbox is restricted to the author and the person who maintains this website for him. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you entrust to us.

10. Cookies

We do not use cookies for analytics or advertising. The details are in our Cookie Policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website, our providers or the law change. The current version is always on this page, with the date of the last update at the top.
